Construction Schedules and Our Current Economic Conditions

A few observations about the new 'normal' in our industry:

The best of the best have jobs and have work

No one has a backlog that provides the confidence to hire additional staff

Very few anticipate anything but prolonged tough times - another year or two at best

With the above assumptions/conditions work is being hoarded and protected in ways I have not seen before. Construction schedules and timelines are difficult to meet in this scenario.

I spoke with a construction business manager who recently laid off nearly a dozen employees because he had work lined up to take him to next March if he he kept everyone or to November with the lay-offs. He believes this is an essential survival move.
